MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is also ready to review the proposal of creating new coordination centers in the fight against the Islamic State in the Middle East and Northern Africa, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

The Baghdad Information Center was founded by Russia, Iran, Syria, and Iraq to coordinate efforts and collect reconnaissance in the fight against the ISIL.

“We are inviting, as you know, any interested colleagues to join the work of the information center that we have created in Baghdad with the governments of Iraq, Syria, and Iran. We are ready to review other areas in the regions where similar coordination may be set up with not only the participants of these countries, but also in other countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa,” Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow.

On September 30, Moscow began airstrikes on ISIL targets in Syria following a request from President Bashar Assad.

According to the Russian military, all targets are chosen based on intelligence collected by the four participants in the Baghdad Information Center. High-precision weapons are being used during the operation.
