MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Ma'an News Agency, the clashes happened as tensions remained high across the West Bank and East Jerusalem following a spate of killings following the funeral of a 13-year-old boy who was shot dead by Israeli forces on Monday.
Four Israelis were killed last week in shooting and stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and the West Bank, while Israeli forces have killed four Palestinians amid the erupting unrest in the area.
Palestine seeks the recognition of its independent state on the territories of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip — lands occupied by Israel since 1967 Six-Day War. The State of Palestine is currently recognized by 136 of the 193 United Nations member-states, including Russia.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalated in July 2014 after Israel launched a military operation against Hamas forces in Gaza, killing thousands of civilians in the process. On August 26, Israel and Palestinian armed groups agreed on a ceasefire following 50 days of military operations.
