"Unfortunately, the achievements of the coalition in the fight against the Islamic State look very modest. The airstrikes (over 5,000 strikes destroying 7,655 targets, according to official figures), in conjunction with operations by special units… have not stopped the terrorist group from expanding," the ministry said in a statement.
"In this regard, we reiterate our appeal to regional and international partners for a genuine consolidation of efforts in the fight against the global terrorism threat, based on the relevant international framework, and with the UN Security Council playing a key role," the statement reads.
Since 2014, an US-led international coalition has been conducting airstrikes against ISIL positions in Iraq and Syria.
Russia has repeatedly criticized the coalition for not being approved by the UN Security Council as well as the Syrian government before launching the campaign and called on the global community to join forces with Damascus in the anti-terror fight.
