DUBAI (Sputnik) – Twenty two United Arab Emirates (UAE) soldiers were killed in a Saudi-led military operation against Houthi rebels in Yemen, the country’s official news agency WAM reported Friday.
The killed soldiers were mourned on Friday by the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces, the news agency said.
According to earlier reports, at least seven UAE military personnel died in the anti-Houthi offensive.
Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between Houthis, the country’s main opposition faction, and government forces.
In late March, a Saudi-led coalition of Arab states began airstrikes against Houthis in Yemen at the request of Yemeni President-in-exile Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
