MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A bomb was planted on a truck and detonated by a suicide bomber, according to the newspaper Today’s Zaman. The extremist group ISIL has claimed responsibility for the explosion.

According to a Kurdish official, cited by the paper, the blast killed 12 people, including 10 civilians and two members of the Kurdish internal security force.

ISIL militants have seized vast territories in Syria and Iraq in recent years.

Syrian and Iraqi Kurds are carrying out ground offensives to counter the militants, managing to retake control of large areas from IS jihadists in 2015.
