ISIL Arrested Some 20 People in Syria's Aleppo Province - Watchdog

More than twenty people reportedly were arrested by the ISIL militants in several villages of Syria's Aleppo province.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — More than twenty people were arrested by the ISIL militants in several villages of Syria's Aleppo province, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

"ISIL arrested more than 20 civilians from the villages of Asenbol, al-Eion, and Hor al-Naher near Mare’ in the northern countryside of Aleppo and led them to unknown destination," the SOHR reported Monday.

Earlier on Monday, at least six people were killed and 15 others were injured as a result of the mortar shelling of residential areas in the Syrian city of Aleppo, the capital of the Aleppo province.

The city of Aleppo has been the scene of intense fighting since 2012, as rebel forces launched an armed campaign against government troops in an attempt to seize control of northern Syria.

At the moment, some 60 percent of Aleppo is controlled by the Syrian Army, while the rest is captured by extremist groups, including ISIL and the Nusra Front.

ISIL is a fundamentalist extremist group, notorious for their multiple human rights atrocities, primarily operating in Iraq and Syria.
