Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's opposition to the Iranian nuclear deal comes mostly from the fear of the lifting of economic sanctions, Iranian political commentator and editor-in-chief of Iran Press newspaper, Emad Abshenass told Sputnik Persian.
Dozens of retired Israeli military officials wrote an open letter, published on Tuesday in Haaretz, advising Netanyahu to accept the nuclear agreement with Iran as a "done deal." The retired officials proposed a renewal of trust and cooperation with the US to ensure Israel's security. According to Abshenass, the issue Netanyahu is concerned with is primarily economic sanctions against Iran.
"This is natural. If the West and Iran come to a complete understanding and agreement on his issue, sanctions would be the first to be lifted. And then, after two to three months, Iran expect that the assets that were earlier frozen (120 to 180 billion dollars, according to estimates), will be returned to the treasury," Abshenass told Sputnik Persian.
"Through active engagement, countries could counteract modern challenges and threats – fundamentalism and terrorism," Abshenass added.
