A roadside bomb planted outside the capital city of the Kingdom of Bahrain exploded near a passing patrol car.

MANAMA (Sputnik) – A roadside bomb planted outside the capital city of the Kingdom of Bahrain exploded near a passing patrol car, injuring one officer, the country’s Ministry of Interior said.

“The device was detonated at 2:47 PM [11:47 GMT], targeting an on-duty police patrol that was securing roads in the area,” the ministry said in a statement published Sunday on its website.

It added that one policeman sustained minor injuries in the explosion in the Manaman suburb of West Ekar and was referred to hospital.

Bahraini police told RIA Novosti a similar explosion rocked the Shiite village of Karrana on Saturday, but did not result in any casualties.

Shiite youth groups opposed to the ruling Al Khalifa royal family have been targeting security forces with improvised explosive devices since 2011.
