Syrian government troops have regained a strategic highway in Idlib province from rebel control, as reported by FARS news agency.

The Syrian army and militia took control of the highway from Ariha to Jisr ash-Shugur along with some of the surrounding areas in the north-west of the country after heavy fighting against the Islamist rebels.

The army retreated from the area in May after a ‘lightning’ offensive in Idlib province conducted by Jaish al-Fatah, an alliance of Islamist groups led by the local al-Qaeda branch al-Nusra Front.
