The Islamic State terrorist croup has beheaded two women for the first time in the Syrian eastern province of Deir Ezzor (Deir ez-Zor), a Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.

“The Islamic State group executed two women by beheading them in Deir Ezzor province, and this is the first time the Observatory has documented women being killed by the group in this manner,” Al Jazeera citing Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman as saying.

The Islamic State (ISIL) militant group, controlling huge portions of Syria and Iraq, has executed more than 3,000 people in Syria, most of them civilians, since June, 2015, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on its website.

Vast territories in Syria, which has been in the state of civil war since 2011, fell into hands of Islamic State.

The militants are notorious for numerous atrocities and brutality, including mass killings, beheadings and kidnappings.

The advance of the insurgent group both in Syria and Iraq is being countered by efforts of Iraqi and Syrian government forces, as well as Kurdish troops and a US-led international coalition.
