P5+1, Tehran Focus on Technical, Legal Aspects of Iran Nuclear Deal
GENEVA (Sputnik) The P5+1 group and Iran have still not come to an agreement on whether to extend the deadline for talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, a Western diplomatic source told Sputnik on Thursday.

“The issue of talks extension as well as the date of the ministerial meeting are still unclear,” the source said.

Another source close to the talks also confirmed to Sputnik that the date of the ministerial meeting has not been agreed yet.

The West has long accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under a guise of a civilian nuclear program, and imposed several rounds of sanctions against Tehran.

In April, Iran and the group of international mediators, comprising the United States, China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and Germany agreed on a political framework for a deal ensuring the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear activities in exchange for easing of sanctions.

The final comprehensive agreement on the matter is expected to be reached by June 30.

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said there was a good possibility that Tehran and the P5+1 will reach a final deal by the deadline or “a few days” after it expires, provided that the sides show strong political will.
