"The members of the Security Council reiterated that no violent or terrorist acts can reverse the path towards Afghan-led peace, democracy and stability in Afghanistan," the organization declared.

A woman and a child were reportedly killed and dozens more wounded, but Afghan officials said no member of the parliament was hurt.

The attack on parliament came as Taliban captured the northern province of Kanduz early on Monday, according to media reports.

The Taliban was formed in the 1990s. It seeks to establish a Sharia-law governed emirate in Afghanistan. The group has carried out numerous deadly attacks in the country.
