At least 45 officers have reportedly been killed and 33 more injured after suicide bombers detonated explosives near a police base in Iraq's Anbar province.

Suicide bombers detonated explosives near a police base in Iraq's Anbar province, leaving at least 45 soldiers killed and 33 others wounded, officials said.

The BBC quoted a source in the Anbar Operations Command as saying that the blast could be the work of Islamic State militants.

The source added that the casualties include an array of high-ranking officers.
