Saudi-led forces bombarded northern Yemen's Saada after promising a five-day ceasefire which would begin on May 12.

The Saudi-led coalition continued airstrikes in northern Yemen's Saada at around 7 p.m. local time.

The strikes follow Houthi militias' shelling of Saudi border areas. Saudi Arabia also announced a five-day ceasefire beginning on May 12.

The Saudi-led coalition initially announced the end to its airstrikes in late April when it ended its "Operation Decisive Storm." Airstrike continued with the launch of "Operation Restoring Hope."

The humanitarian situation deteriorated in Yemen amid the bombing campaign which was launched on March 26 by request of Yemeni president. The UN estimates that over 1,200 people have been killed and another 300,000 fled their homes in the past six weeks amid ongoing ground fighting and aerial bombardments.
