BEIRUT (Sputnik) – Fighters from Lebanese Hezbollah movement repelled the second attack in the week of the Nusra Front militants along the border with Syria, killing 16 extremists, a source in the organizations said Tuesday.

On Monday, the Nusra Front attacked Hezbollah positions at the Syrian border. The Hezbollah fighters, along with the Syrian army, killed 20 militants and wounded 50, according to Hezbollah's Manar television.

“The [anti-Nusra Front] fighters destroyed seven units of Nusra militants' heavy weaponry in the mountainous region Tfeil and to the east of Brital. 16 militants were killed,” the source told RIA Novosti.

The militants came from the Syrian territory, the source added.

According to media reports, Hezbollah has been helping the Syrian government fight the Islamic State and radical Sunni militants, including the Nusra Front, a Syrian affiliate of al-Qaeda.
