Russia to Evacuate 150 People From Yemen on Sunday – Embassy

Russia will evacuate some 150 people from Yemen, according to the statement of a source in the Russian Embassy.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia will evacuate some 150 people from Yemen on Sunday by planes, a source in the Russian Embassy in Yemeni capital Sanaa said Sunday.

"We are sending planes back. Two planes have arrived. We are trying to send them back," the source told RIA Novosti.

According to the source, there are Russian and other countries' nationals on board the planes.

Two Russian evacuation planes were expected in Yemen on Saturday, but the coalition of Arab states conducting airstrikes in the conflict-torn country did not grant access to Yemen's airspace.

Earlier on Sunday, Russian warship Priazovye evacuated 308 people, including 45 Russians, as well as citizens of 19 other countries. The delivered the evacuees to Djibouti.

Russia has so far evacuated more than 600 people of different nationalities from Yemen.

Once in Moscow, the evacuated will undergo medical, passport and customs checks and be taken to the Russian Foreign Ministry's evacuation center to meet with representatives of their respective states. Those whose final destination is outside Russia are transferred to Moscow airports to travel further on.
