An Egyptian court confirmed on Saturday that Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohammed Badie and 13 others have been sentenced to death.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Another 36 people, including a person with dual US-Egyptian citizenship, have been jailed for life, according to the news outlet.

Local media reported in March that Badie had been sentenced to capital punishment.

The Brotherhood leader is embroiled in numerous trials for allegedly inciting violence and murder during widespread protests in 2013.

The protests resulted in the overthrow of former Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, who led the Brotherhood-linked Freedom and Justice Party.

Following the coup, the Muslim Brotherhood, which was legalized in Egypt in 2011 after being banned for decades, has again suffered a major crackdown. Hundreds of the group’s members have been sentenced to death.
