MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A Russian plane to evacuate more people from conflict-torn Yemen is expected to arrive on Saturday, a source at the Russian Embassy said.
Russia has previously sent five planes to Yemen for evacuation purposes.
"Yes, a plane should arrive today," the source told RIA Novosti.
The source did not specify how many people will be evacuated or their nationalities.
Russia has evacuated a total of about 600 people of different nationalities, mostly women and children, from Yemen in the past few days.
Once in Moscow, the evacuees pass medical, passport and customs control and are taken to the Russian Foreign Ministry's evacuation center, where they meet with representatives of their respective countries. Those who need to travel further to a different destination are delivered to Moscow airports.
Tensions have been on the rise in Yemen recently, with Shiite Houthi rebels battling troops loyal to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
An international coalition led by Saudi Arabia has been conducting airstrikes against Houthi positions since late March, following Hadi's request for military aid.
