MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Yemen's Ansar Allah opposition party, better known as the Houthis, says the Saudi-led military operation violates international laws and is an act of outright aggression against Yemenis, a member of the group told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"This aggression has nothing to do with any legitimacy. Civilians are being targeted, they declared war against people of Yemen," Ali Quhoum told Sputnik from the Yemeni capital of Sanaa.

A Saudi-led military operation was launched two weeks ago to roll back Houthi insurgency in Yemen, after its president called for intervention. The ten-nation coalition has not sought a mandate from the UN Security Council for the military campaign.

"This war will definitely fail and the Yemenis will win it. They won't be able to get the people's spirit broken," Quhoum said, adding that the onslaught had united people and political parties against a common enemy.

Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Sergei Lavrov told Rossiya Segodnya news agency's general director, Dmitry Kiselev, that without a UN Security Council resolution the Saudi military foray into Yemen was illegal.

The conflict has killed more than 540 people and injured 1,700 since March 19, according to the UN's recent estimates.
