Saudi-Led Coalition Airstrikes Hit Yemeni Border Town

The Saudi-led coalition of Arab states carried out four airstrikes in Yemen hitting the town of Razeh in the Saada province.

BEIRUT (Sputnik) — The Saudi-led coalition of Arab states has launched another series of airstrikes in Yemen hitting the town of Razeh in the Saada province at the border with Saudi Arabia, a Sputnik correspondent reported Monday citing eyewitnesses.

"The coalition planes carried out four airstrikes in Saada province… Saudi artillery opened fire at Razeh town in Saada province," a local source told Sputnik, adding that residents of the area fled to the mountains in an attempt to hide from the bombings.

The Houthi group, the main opposition force in Yemen, recently took over the country's capital Sanaa, forcing the elected government and president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi to resign. The country is currently engulfed in violent confrontation between Houthis and forces loyal to Hadi.

At the end of March, upon request by Hadi who by that time had fled Yemen, a group of Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia launched missile strikes against the Houthis.

The move prompted several countries, including Russia, India and China to start evacuating their citizens from Yemen.

Last Thursday UN humanitarian chief Valerie Amos said that more than 500 people have been killed and some 1,700 wounded in Yemen in the past two weeks.
