Ali Abdullah Saleh called for the Saudi Arabia-led international coalition and the Houthi rebels to stop all military action.

SANAA (Sputnik) — Former President Ali Abdullah Saleh in his peaceful initiatives for resolving the conflict in Yemen released on Friday, called for the Saudi Arabia-led international coalition and the Houthi rebels to stop all military action immediately.

On Wednesday night, an international coalition of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Pakistan and Egypt launched a military campaign targeting Houthi positions in the Yemeni capital Sanaa. The attack came in response to a request by the country's ousted president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. The coalition's airstrikes have resulted in dozens of deaths and casualties.

"The immediate cessation of all military activities by the forces of the Saudi Arabia-led coalition," was the first point of Ali Abdullah Saleh’s initiative. The second point called on Houthi rebels as well as all other armed formations active in the country, including the al-Qaeda terrorist group to immediately cease hostilities in Yemen.

Saleh also called for the looting of public institutions and military units in the cities of Aden, Lahij and all the other governorates in the country to come to an end.

The final point of the document called on all sides of the Yemeni conflict to return to UN-mediated talks so as to resolve all the problems and bring the transition period to an end.

The security situation in Yemen has deteriorated amid the current political crisis with forces, loyal to President Hadi, fighting against the country's main opposition force, the Shiite Houthi rebel group as well as a number of other armed groups, including al-Qaeda extremists.
