Saudi Arabia, assisted by other Gulf States, has launched an airstrike campaign against Houthi militias in Yemen, hitting militant targets across the country's capital of Sanaa, including an airbase, an international airport and the presidential palace.

The military operation, known as Firmness Storm, is aimed at assisting Yemen's legitimate government and preventing Houthi militias from assuming full control of the country, Saudi Arabia ambassador to the United States said.

Ten countries take part in the campaign against Houthis, including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Earlier on Thursday, Egypt confirmed that it will take part in the Saudi-led military operation in Yemen.
