MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Netanyahu will obtain the authority after Rivlin receives the official results of the March 17 general election from the Central Elections Committee. Netanyahu's right-wing Likud party won the election, overcoming by six seats its primary rival, the leftist Zionist Union, in the parliament.
The prime minister will have about a month to form the 34th Israeli government. If he does not meet the deadline, the president can give him extra two weeks.
Last week, 67 members of the newly elected parliament backed Netanyahu to become the prime minister for the fourth time.
In December 2014 the Israeli leader dissolved the parliament amid a row with left-wing ministers.
