Hamas blamed Egypt's military forces for firing at Palestinian security posts in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday, according to AFP.
Palestinian authorities claimed that the attack was unjustified and demanded an investigation.
The incident occurred a few days after Egypt banned Hamas' armed wing and listed it as a terrorist organization. Egypt authorities accused Hamas of smuggling arms into Egypt and supporting militants fighting against the country’s government, according to Haaretz.
"The court ruled to ban the Iz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades and to list it as a terrorist group," a special Cairo court ruled earlier.
Egypt has played a major role in mediating a truce between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip several times, but after the court's decision the country refused to be a mediator in Palestine-Israel relations.
