"The late king was known as a wise and self-consistent statesman and politician, the leader respected and loved by his subjects and worthily respected internationally… His Majesty did much to improve socioeconomic state of [his country's] population, develop social institutions of the kingdom and struggle [against] terrorism at various levels," the statement read.
The Russian President expressed confidence that the positive effects of King Abdullah's rule will ensure the future progress and prosperity of Saudi Arabia and regional stability and security.
The president praised King Abdullah's assistance in regulation of the Arab-Israeli conflict, giving momentum to cooperation between faiths.

Earlier on Friday, Jordan, Egypt and Bahrain announced the period of mourning following the death of the Saudi Arabian king. A national mourning period was announced in Egypt for seven days. Bahrain and Jordan announced a mourning period of forty days for the dead king.
The sixth King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud died on Friday night at the age of 90. King Abdullah had been suffering from pneumonia and spent several weeks hospitalized.
