Hezbollah Vows Retaliation for Israeli Airstrikes on Syrian Golan Heights
UNITED NATIONS, January 19 (Sputnik) — The UN peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights said Monday it observed drones, coming from the Israeli-occupied Alpha side, before an aerial attack on Sunday, which killed six Hezbollah officials.

“On January 18, 2015 the UN Disengagement Observer Force observed two unmanned aerial vehicles, flying from the Alpha side and crossing the ceasefire line,” Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Farhan Haq said.

Haq added that the UNDOF mission saw the drones moving toward the UN peacekeeping position.

“Subsequently, UNDOF observed UAVs [unmanned aerial vehicle], flying from the general area of Position 30 and over Jabbata crossing the ceasefire line,” Haq concluded, adding that the incident was a violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement between Israeli and Syrians.

On Sunday, Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar television channel reported that an Israeli helicopter fired missiles on a group of militants in the Syrian province of Quneitra. The air attack killed six people, including Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of Hezbollah’s late military commander, and Mohammed Issa, a senior commander responsible for group’s operations in Syria and Iraq.

On Monday, Lebanese As-Safir newspaper cited Hezbollah as promising to stage a “painful” response to the attack.
