Iran’s nuclear official announced that he had no information on the issue, but said that such a purchase would not contradict the Geneva agreement.

MOSCOW, December 9 (Sputnik) – Iran’s nuclear official has denied information about an alleged purchase of new equipment for its Arak nuclear plant, dismissing renewed concerns among US officials over the non-peaceful nature of enrichment activities in the country, AFP reported on Wednesday.

Spokesman for the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Behrouz Kamalvandi, announced that he did not possess any data about such kind of a purchase. He also added that the acquisition of new components would not be against the Geneva agreement, signed by Iran and the P5+1countries in November 2013, according to FNA.

"Buying equipment for Arak heavy water reactor is not against the Geneva agreement and what has been stated in the agreement includes not installing equipment, but it does not refer to their purchase," Behrouz Kamalvandi told the Iranian news agency.

His statement followed the report of Foreign Policy magazine, stating that the US privately informed the UN Panel of Experts on Iran about Iran’s intention to purchase equipment for the Arak nuclear facility, according to AFP.

The Geneva agreement provides that Iran would partly stop its enrichment activities in return for an easing of economic sanctions. The final round of talks is expected to take place on July 10.
