Turkish Justice Minister stated that authorities have arrested 386 people over criminal cases, after Kurdish riots on October 6-7, 2014.

MOSCOW, November 13 (Sputnik) — Turkish authorities have detained 386 people over criminal cases, filed following the Kurdish riots on October 6-7, 2014, the Turkish Justice Minister said Thursday.

"As a result of unauthorized demonstrations held under the guise of support for Kobane, 73 investigations were launched into 1,598 suspects; 894 people were taken into custody and 386 people have been arrested. Twenty-nine of our citizens lost their lives,” Bekir Bozdag said as quoted by Hurriyet Turkish newspaper.

According to the minister, 244 people have been released on probation and five others have been freed without restrictions.

In October the Kurdish population in Turkey organized street riots in a number of Turkish cities. Dozens of people died in the ensuing civil disorder. The situation in the Kurdish border town of Kobane which is surrounded by Islamic State (IS) triggered riots of solidarity and wrath against the Turkish policy of non-intervention in the Syrian conflict.

IS, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State and the Levant (ISIL) is an extremist group that has been fighting the Syrian government since 2012. In June IS expanded their attacks to northern and western Iraq and declared an Islamic caliphate on their territories.
