TEL AVIV, November 5 (RIA Novosti) – Israeli police have shot dead a man who earlier drove his car into a crowd of pedestrians in Jerusalem, killing one and injuring 13 people, a source in the local police told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.
"It was a terror attack. A driver crashed into people, who were waiting for a tram. The terrorist was shot by the nearby border police," the police officer said.
He added that the emergency vehicles took 14 people to hospitals and one person died as a result of injuries sustained.
According to eyewitness reports, before being shot by police, the driver crashed into a tram stop, left his car and started beating people with a metal bar.
A similar incident took place in Jerusalem in October, when a 3-month-old infant and a student from Ecuador were killed when a resident of one of the city's Arab neighborhoods crashed into a tram stop.
The driver was also shot by a police officer as he tried to flee the scene.
Israeli authorities later announced his connection with the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.
