The ashes of Cuba’s late revolutionary leader Fidel Castro have been interred in the city of Santiago de Cuba, Latin American news channel Telesur reported Sunday.

HAVANA (Sputnik) — Fidel’s brother and incumbent president Raul Castro promised a modest family ceremony at the Santa Ifigenia cemetery. It was not transmitted by the public television network.

Fidel Castro passed away last week at the age of 90. The funeral ended a nationwide mourning that lasted more than a week.

His remains were brought from Havana to the historic city of Santiago in southeastern Cuba, from where he marched on the capital at the start of the 1959 Cuban revolution.
