US President Barack Obama has decided not to send an official presidential delegation to the memorial service for longtime Cuban President Fidel Castro, White House spokesman Joshua Earnest told reporters on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — However, Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes and the top US diplomat in Cuba, Jeffrey DeLaurentis, will be present at the funeral, Earnest explained.

"We believe that this was appropriate way for the United States to show our commitment to an ongoing future oriented relationship with the Cuban people … while also acknowledging some of the differences that remain between our two countries," Earnest said at the press briefing.
