Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro said that the US presidential election system was medieval and out-of-dated.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Maduro stressed that the American president is elected by a handful of people rather than by the entire nation.

“The president is elected not by people but by over 500 people, who are electors determining the head of state,” Maduro told the Miraflores radio broadcaster on Tuesday.

He also said that he would meet with US Secretary of State John Kerry in the coming days.

Formally, US president is elected by the College of Electors that includes 538 specially elected persons.
