A strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Chile’s central Maule region on Friday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

MOSCOW(Sputnik) — The quake struck at 16:20 GMT at the depth of 56 miles. The epicenter lied 15 miles southeast from the city of Curico.

Chile is located within the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, where 90 percent of the world's earthquakes occur. An 8.8-magnitude quake hit it six years ago, killing hundreds of people.
