Venezuelan Deputy Foreign Minister Bernardo Alvarez Herrera said that country's opposition in cooperation with foreign right-wing forces are planning a coup in the country on Thursday.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — On Thursday, Venezuela's opposition is expected to hold a rally in Caracas demanding an announcement of resignation referendum of country's president Nicolas Maduro.

"The authorship of the coup, which is planned on September 1, has become obvious. It is a collusion between anti-democratic opposition and international right-wing forces," Herrera said, as quoted by the Hispan TV broadcaster.

Herrera added that US administration created instability in the region and in Venezuela in particular in order to implement its "imperialistic plans against peace and development of the nations."

The opposition has been trying to oust the Venezuelan leader for months amid widespread public discontent with Maduro's government and acute economic problems the country is facing.
