Manifesto "The Judicial Hunt for Ex-President Lula"("A Caçada Judicial ao Ex-presidente Lula") was published by the Workers' Party in four languages – Portuguese, English, French and Spanish – in order to tell the world about the political persecution Brazil's former president has been exposed to.

The manifesto accuses Brazilian General Prosecutor Rodrigo Janot, Judge Sérgio Moro and Justice of the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court Gilmar Mendes of violating 12 constitutional rights of the former president of Brazil, Lula da Silva.

Outrage, kidnapping, abuse of authority, violence and slander — these are just some of the crimes committed against the former president by Interim President Michel Temer's government. The document also notes the involvement of the Brazilian press in the process of persecution. It is a method that has been chosen for demonizing Lula in order to prevent his candidacy in the presidential elections in 2018.

"This is an attempt of the majority among the press and the opposition to discredit the candidacy of the largest national leader in the history of the Brazilian republic, who was able to win those parties, the Brazilian oligarchy and bourgeoisie. They are trying to create a legal environment to prevent it," Secretary for Policy and International Relations of the Communist Party of Brazil (Partido Comunista do Brasil, PCdoB), José Reinaldo Carvalho told Sputnik in an interview.

"As the secretary for political affairs and international relations, I am asked from different countries, what the real reasons of these attacks on Lula are."

Carvalho said that in the international arena, not everyone recognized the new government, which is trying by all means to demonstrate its legitimacy.

"With all due respect to the people of Armenia, the visit of President Serzh Sargsyan to Temer on August 12 was just a dirty diplomatic ruse from the interim government, which staged a coup, in order to increase their image. On the other hand, the President of Portugal, who was here at the Olympic Games and who represents the alliance of right-wing forces, ignored Temer. This government does not have prestige, or international recognition," he added.

Secretary of the Communist Party of Brazil also criticized Brazil's position in South America and MERCOSUR, where the new government is trying by all means to sabotage the upcoming Venezuelan presidency of the bloc.

"We are watching how Brazil pushes on, flatters and blackmails Uruguay to prevent the country from not transferring its powers to Venezuela," Carvalho concluded.
