At least six people were injured by falling debris in Ecuador after a strong earthquake hit the country’s western coast on Wednesday, the Security Coordination Ministry said.

MOSCOW(Sputnik) — A 6.7-magnitude earthquake was registered at 07:57 GMT, 27 miles west from the town of Muisne.

The Security Coordination Ministry said data provided by local health authorities showed that five people had received minor injuries when trying to leave their homes. A collapsed wall also injured a person in Muisne.

"Those affected received prompt medical attention," the ministry said in a statement.

It added that crucial infrastructure facilities, such as dams and factories, had not been affected. Officials denied reports of an ammonia leak at a Portoviejo factory.

The quake came a month after a 7.8-magnitude earthquake on April 16 killed hundreds of people and caused serious damage across Ecuador.
