Special Commission Probes Honduras Police for Links to Organized Crime

A special commission tasked with eliminating corruption within the Honduras National Police says over two dozen police officers have been fired, local media report.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – According to Rivera, every officer found to be incompetent and dishonest or having links to organized crime in Honduras during investigations that will be conducted over the next 12 months will be fired.

"The process of purification and restructuring of the National Police is permanent," Omar Rivera, a member of the Special Commission told reporters as quoted by La Prensa on Friday.

River said as quoted by La Prensa on Friday that international organizations could be involved in the work of the special commission.

Honduras police have been accused of being involved in the murders of government officials in 2009 and 2011.

Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernandez ordered to create a special commission to conduct an internal investigation of the country’s National Police earlier this month.
