“Health centers will use this funding to expand voluntary family planning services, including contraceptive services, outreach and education, and to hire more staff,” the release issued on Tuesday explained.

Scientists have concluded that Zika contracted by pregnant women is responsible for severe fetal brain defects, pregnancy loss and other adverse birth outcomes.

The Zika virus is spread by the Aedes mosquito, which is president in more than half of the United States and throughout much of South America and the Caribbean.
