Death Toll From Ecuador Quake Reaches 262 – Interior Ministry

The death toll from the powerful earthquake that shook coastal Ecuador has risen to 262, the country’s Vice Interior Minister Diego Fuentes told reporters.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – According to earlier figures, some 246 people were confirmed dead as result of the natural disaster.

A 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Ecuador on Saturday, with its epicenter near the town of Pedernales.

Some 2,500 people have been injured in the quake, according to the country’s authorities.
