MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian nuclear experts are ready to offer Latin American countries their scientific research in the field of the sea water desalination, as well as technologies for the decontamination of agricultural products, the head of Russia's Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation's office in Rio de Janeiro said.

Sergei Krivolapov presented the corporation's global development strategy and perspectives for Latin America at the Russia-Latin America Business and Media Forum held in Montevideo, Uruguay, on March 28–29, 2016. The nuclear energy corporation considers the region to be one of its top priorities in terms of international partnerships.

"We are ready to develop cooperation with Latin American countries in all areas. We are ready to offer our Latin American partners the technology for water-purification and the desalination of sea water," Krivolapov was quoted as saying in Rosatom's press release.

Earlier in March, Russia and Bolivia signed an intergovernmental cooperation agreement on the peaceful use of nuclear energy and cooperation in building a nuclear research and technology center at an altitude of 13,500 feet above sea level in El Alto. Krivolapov told Sputnik in December that the Russia-built research center would allow Bolivia to become an exporter of radioactive isotopes to battle cancer.
