MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — More than 6.5 million Bolivian citizens are eligible to vote in the referendum, according to the Supreme Electoral Court.
According to recent polls, the number of those who support the constitutional reform to unlimit the presidential terms is almost equal to the amount of amendment's opponents, and is hovering around 40 percent.
Morales, the country's first indigenous leader, has been the President of Bolivia since January 2006. In 2008, the country held a referendum to recall the president, but to the dismay of the right-wing opposition, Morales received the support of 67 percent of voters and remained the leader of Bolivia.
The Bolivian constitution allows the president to hold office only for two consecutive terms, but in 2013, the Bolivian Constitutional Court ruled that Morales had a right to run for the third term.
