MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – Officials said the 5,200-liter tanker crashed into a power line in the city of Tonala after its breaks failed, causing the fuel to leak and erupt in flames.
Six of the 15 injured are in critical condition, the Jalisco State Unit of Civil Protection and Fire said in a statement late Tuesday.
At least nine vehicles parked nearby and a number of local businesses have burned down.
The accident took place near a kindergarten, where up to 250 people were evacuated immediately following an explosion.
Rescue crews battled the flames for some 40 minutes.
