Number of Displaced South Americans Due to Heavy Floods Rises to 160,000

Some 160,000 people left their homes in several South American states because of severe floods, local media reported.

MEXICO (Sputnik) — The region has been affected by heavy rains since December 18. Due to the rains, the local rivers of Uruguay and Quarai overflew their banks.

About 150,000 South Americans Leave Homes Due to Heavy Floods

The flooding in Paraguay claimed the lives of four people, as well as caused the loss of power in the majority of the country and the evacuation of 130,000 people, the Argentinian La Nacion news portal said Saturday.

The natural disaster also damaged thousands of families in Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay.

The number of evacuated people in Argentina, as well as in other affected countries is expected to further rise, the outlet added.
