The incident occurred in the state of Roraima on September 30, when a 32-year-old cleaning lady took and ate a single Sonho de Valsa (Dream Waltz) candy from a table belonging to Agostinho Cascardo, a Federal Police inspector. The moment the woman took the candy was recorded by CCTV cameras at the Federal Police building.

Jorge Fraxe, chairman of the Order of Attorneys of Brazil's branch in Roraima, said that the cleaning lady is afraid and that she feels ashamed of her candy caper. She told her lawyers that she only took and ate one candy from the inspector’s table, according to the newspaper.

She also added that she had no intention to commit theft and that she didn’t realize that such an insignificant act would prompt a full-blown investigation.

Fraxe also said he was told by the Federal Police officials that no criminal case was reportedly launched regarding the incident and that he’s going to request the Federal Prosecution Office to provide him with access to the case files as the Order of Attorneys "needs some sort of official confirmation to start acting."

Social media users have already dubbed the incident "Operation Dream Waltz" due to the ill-fated candy’s brand.

"It is quite typical of our people, to joke about serious matters," Fraxe remarked. “But I’m very concerned. The Federal Police managed to uncover and expose the largest corruption scheme in the world during Operation Car Wash. It can’t just become involved in the case of a candy. I’m very worried about it."
