MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Brazil could abolish ten out of 39 government ministries under a new administrative reform, country's Minister of Planning, Budget and Management Nelson Barbosa announced.
"We have not yet defined which ministries or structures will be targeted…. We will assess all ministers, all agencies involved to consider the initiatives in this direction, both from the point of view of management, operation of each ministry…. as also from a political point of view," the minister said in a statement published Monday.
The reform is part of country's "rationalization program" which would help adopt better techniques in various fields, including water cleaning, technical development and development of construction projects, the minister recalled.
Brazil's ruling Workers' Party headed by Rousseff has recently been criticized for the huge size of government, as well as for announcing an austerity program which stipulated increased taxes among other points.
