MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A 5.2-magnitude earthquake occurred Sunday off the coast of the Republic of El Salvador, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

The epicenter of the quake was located 67 kilometers (42 miles) to the southwest of the port city of Acajutla, Sonsonate department, at a depth of 49 kilometers (30.5 miles), USGS said.
No information about the damage or casualties was immediately available.
In El Salvador, which is part of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, earthquakes are frequent due to the intense seismic activity.
