MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) – The home of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega was flooded along with 2,000 other buildings in the country that has been hit by heavy storm-related rains.
Nicaragua’s first lady and Coordinator of the Council of Communication and Citizenry (CCC) Rosario Murillo announced on Wednesday that police and military personnel were helping clear the presidential home of water on Tuesday.
Patients were evacuated from nine flooded hospitals, according to Murillo.
At the end of last month, a storm system stretching from Mexico to central United States took the lives of over 30 people, with the US states of Texas and Oklahoma having been affected the most.
Texas broke a 2004 record of rain and reported over 20 flood-related deaths, which prompted US President Barack Obama to sign a flood disaster declaration for the state.
