The two bodies were found in a glacier on Mexico's highest peak, Pico de Orizaba, when a head and hand were seen sticking out from the ice. One appeared to be clinging to the other.

The bodies are thought to be two Mexican climbers who haven't been seen since 1959, when a team of seven mountaineers were caught in an avalanche. Three people were reported missing after the incident, and presumed to be dead.

One of the survivors saw pictures of the mummified bodies and said he was confident they were two of his missing friends, the Independent reported.

The bodies were found just over 1000 feet from the summit of Pico de Orizaba, which measures 18,406 feet. It is thought that a third body might be found when recovery workers are able to return to the peak.
