    An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 has occurred off the coast of Panama, but no tsunami is expected, US Geological Survey (USGS) reported Wednesday.

    MOSCOW, January 7 (Sputnik) The earthquake was recorded 245 kilometers (152 miles) south of Panama's Punta de Burica at 05:07 GMT, USGS said.

    The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported a destructive pacific-wide tsunami was not expected and there was no tsunami treat for Hawaii.

    An earthquake of magnitude six or more is considered to be powerful and may cause significant damages, as well as lead to tsunami.
