The European Union was created as a political and economic union of 28 member states on February 7, 1992, by signing the Maastricht Treaty. But the EU has changed since then.

ha! The countries with the most optimistic view of this charade are the ones who take more out of it than they put in it. Their GDP,s are the same as that of Lilliput in Gulliver's Travels.

Conan_Moron, Yes! The Irish have always held a very healthy 'take it all, give nothing back!' attitude to the EU.

Most people I talk to there are very optimistic about getting their hands on yet more Brussels gold before anyone notices that the Irish are, and always will be Celts, and not very European one's at that.

If Brussels wants to give them money they'll quite happily listen to anything Brussels wants to tell them. Then they'll do nothing they're told and go and spend the money in Vegas.
